I have the usb for my PDM15 plugged into a usb hub along with my dash/ecu/TCU so I just have a single cable that needs to plug into the laptop for adjustments.
However the self powering of the PDM from the USB port means that when I have to cycle the power on the car as part of any work I also have to unplug the the usb as well for everything to turn off. It’s only a small thing but it’s irritating and if I forget it can lead to ecu errors for the DBW relay for example. It was great for bench setup before I installed it!
is there any way to disable this feature in the software? I can’t see the option but thought best to ask. I’m assuming the 5v in the usb cable is what powers it during this time?
the other option im considering without going internal to the circuitry of the PDM is to remove the 5v supply from the usb cable and join it to the 5v PDM output? This would then only power the usb when the ignition and PDM is on. Any reason this wouldn’t work?
cheers
Hi, Normally the USB is disconnected after the PDM is configured. If you need a permanent USB connection the PDM, then i would suggest looking here -

Hi Sparkystav, how did you secure the USB connector against loosening due to vibration? Or did you use special automotive connectors? If so, which type. I'm facing the same task and looking for a ridgid solution. Thank you in advance.
No problem - so it doesn’t need the 5v and I can just strip back the usb cable and disconnect that completely?
thanks for the quick response.
Hi, unfortunately this is not possible to disable in software. The easiest option to not void your warranty would be to modify the USB cable by cutting the 5v power wire. Alternatively you may be able to buy a cable without the power wire just ground and data, although I'm not sure.
